Choosing a programme

How to compare glaucoma training

A useful glaucoma shortlist compares the published clinical focus with the fellow’s role in surgery, resident teaching and research. The programme title alone does not establish case volume or independence.

  • Ask how exposure is divided between adult and pediatric disease, laser treatment and the procedures described in the curriculum.
  • Distinguish the number of fellows training concurrently from the number of new positions each year.
  • Check citizenship, licensure and visa conditions individually; these can differ even between programmes in the same country.

Directory snapshot: 137 fellowship listings and 27 observership listings. Published fellowship lengths include 1 year, 18 months, 2 years, 3 years. 54 fellowship listings do not yet have a confirmed fixed duration. Counts describe this directory, not current vacancies or all programmes worldwide.

For every shortlist, open the individual profile and follow its official sources to confirm the next intake, eligibility and application instructions.
